Excellent point on marketing.  My dad, an old school ad man once told me that you can tell how much the same different products are by how much they are advertised.  Undifferentiated crap requires heavy marketing to create a sense of uniqueness.  Things that are truly valuable, innovative, or simply useful sell themselves (almost)</description>
